First.....Talk

3-10-2013 (also Grandma Embley's Birthday)

Auburn gave her first talk in primary today.  She did amazing.  I stood in the back and cried the whole time.  I could tell she was really nervous because she tried to hide behind her Jesus picture the whole time she spoke.  Greg asked her how it made her feel to stand up and give a talk in primary and she said "sad" but I think she meant nervous/scared.

In case you can't hear the words this is what she said:
"This is Jesus Christ.
We believe that through the atonement of Christ all mankind may be saved that by the obedience and laws and ordinances of the gospel.
Jesus Christ created the world, healed the sick, died for us.
All the families are loved by Jesus.
In the name of Jesus Christ Amen."

Greg helped Auburn write her own talk.  We asked her questions like "who does Jesus love?" and "What did Jesus do?" and used her answers for her talk.  We also had her say the third article of faith (all of them are found here, which are the basics of what our church teaches) that she had memorized.

Grandma Embley and Aunt Daryl also gave talks on this same day!  It wasn't the first time for either of them, but something fun to remember for the future.  :)

Soccer Champ Auburn

Auburn had her first soccer practice a few Saturday's ago! She did awesome!

Blankie Love

My good friend, Melissa, made these blankets for my girls.  Ruby really loves her - she sleeps with it every night, and she has started to tear it apart with her teeth, and it pretty much always smells like baby spit.  Yuck. Since Ruby has been so attached with her blanket, Auburn has started to take an interest in her own.  (Read: Whenever Ruby touches her blanket it become the most prized possession in the world.)  I love it when they play with each other.  They are the best girls in the world!

Best Friends Already

Auburn is so good to Ruby. It really is fun to watch Auburn love and kiss and hug Ruby. She has even start sharing her toys with her. It's kind of awkward because her crib is always hazardous with bouncy balls, blankets, flashlights, etc. but fun to watch and I really don't mind as long as they get along.

Roller Derby Super Star

Auburn is the luckiest girl in the world. Aunt Denise found these super amazing, mint condition, pink and purple ribbons, Barbie roller skates. Auburn loves to put them on and stand around like a super star, which is just the first step on the road to derby stardom. If you don't know what roller derby is, here is a catch-you-up link. The posters are really where its at though. I know, she totally looks the part.

I would highly recommend a pair of super amazing, mint condition, pink and purple ribbon Barbie roller skates to any little-girl-turned-roller-derby-princess.

Swimsuit Season

For spring break the pools opened up and we had a playdate at the Mesquite/Basha highschool pool. They have a splash pad, lazy river, wading pool, toddler pool, and an olympic sized pool. It was a lot of fun in the sun! We saw a ton of friends and enjoyed the water play-gym. The night before, we realized that Auburn needed a new swimsuit, so Daddy was very nice and took Auburn to Target and pick out FOUR different swimsuits. He brought them home and let Mommy pick her favorite to use. If you ever come to Arizona, we will take you to the best pool ever!

Giant Turtles

Auburn and I went with some friends to the Zoo and it was a nice, warm Arizona day. This is the first time we had seen these tortoise's, and we were very impressed by their size and age. They can live up to 80 years! I think it's time we got a desert tortoise.

Elbow

This is "Elbow". Grandma Warner brought it back from Mexico for Auburn, and since she has so limited a vocabulary this little red lama/sheep is now named one of the only things she can say. Elbow has already been broken and repaired twice and now lives on a shelf. He seems to really like the view up there. Thanks Grandmary Warner for Elbow!

Fwd: Let it be known...

(from last Sunday)

Let it be known that today is a very sad day in history. It is the last Sunday that I get to take Auburn with me to Sunday school and Elder's quorum. Next week she goes to nursery. Sad.

it's getting hot

I can tell it's getting hot for a few reason.

One, my weeds are dying of their own volition.



Two, Auburn is getting more creative in her sleeping habits.


Three, my thermostat reads above 76 degrees when I wake up.


We turned on our AC for the second time this year yesterday. Our house was over 85 degrees. Can you believe that the pools aren't open yet? Crazy. I have to admit that I'm excited about the weeds dying on their own though.

Auburn's Room

The baby room is done! We did yellow on yellow pin stripes, and it took us 3 days. It really was a fast project (compared to all the other projects that are sitting around our house right now).

The two colors we picked out were "pale daffodil" and "moonbeam". "Moonbeam" is the stripe color, and "pale daffodil" is the wall color. We started by measuring out the spacing for the stripes and marking them with a pencil by hanging a piece of blue painters tape with a weight on the end of it:

We then stuck the tape to the wall and traced the right edge down. Then we pulled off the tape and painted with the color "moonbean" over the top of the stripe. We did this twice, 6 hours apart from each other:

Then we did our blue tape trick again over the top of the "moonbeam" paint stripes. We tied a weight to the end of the blue painters tape until it lined up straight and pressed it down. As you can see in the picture we then took "moonbeam" and painted over the top of the blue tape. (We did this so that the wall color wouldn't bleed along the edges of the tape. It helps to make a nice clean line as you'll see later.):

Again, we waited for this to dry, and we painted the walls with "pale daffodil":



It took Greg and I one hour to do the first wall coat working together, and it took me two hours and twenty minutes to do the second coat by myself. When it was dry, we pulled off the blue painters tape......and........

As you can see in the Alice-in-Wonderland-picture it looks pretty nifty now!

Auburn, 6 Month's Old

Auburn has been growing and growing! We just went to our 6 month doctor's appointment. She is "above the 97%" for height, and her weight and head circumference are both in the 70's. She knows how to blow raspberries, wave goodnight, play peek-boo with a blanket, clap, and sit herself up. She can crawl, but mostly chooses not too, favoring scooting around.

I really like that she can clap now. When we're in the car and I want to know if she's awake or not I just say "Auburn, yey!" and she will clap her hands if she's awake. Instant baby-awake signal! She still is a very friendly baby and smiles at everyone. When we go through the grocery story, she sits sideways in the cart and will smile at everyone we pass.

She also loves taking bath's, and knows how to splash. She loves going for walks in her stroller. With all of the work going on over at our new house she has been exposed to lots of things that make interesting noises, her favorite is the paint cans. She will play with a *sealed* paint can for an hour.

We have discovered that Auburn like pea's, squash, apple slices and graham crackers. I thought that when we started feeding her solids she would cut back on her formula intake, but she is just growing to fast for that to happen! This last week she has learned how to hold her own bottle and will feed herself.

We are so PROUD of our little girl! Auburn is the EASIEST baby anyone could hope for and we are SO HAPPY to have her in our little family!

my first quilt

I have been working on my first quilt, and I thought I would throw up some pictures so that everyone could see what it currently looks like. For the past three days I've been trying to get my machine to do the actual quilting with no success, but last night we turned a corner and it's smooth sailing now!



Giant baby loves the quilt. She has been playing with it all morning. I put paperclips around the edges to keep them together, and she is slowly taking each one off.


We were suppose to close on our house today, but there is a paper that's missing so we can't until they get it (next week).
